IATO strongly recommends that Tourism be brought on to the National Agenda and accorded top priority and restructured in a way that would enable the industry to contribute to the maximum realization of the tremendous potential of the sector for alleviating poverty through Employment generation across the country.

IATO feels it is high time to formulate an Action Plan for the Eastern Region, with special emphasis on the North East, based on public-private cooperation and implement it within a tight time frame and proper monitoring.

IATO recommends that both the goverment and the industry should get together to create an effective mechanism for Crisis Management.

IATO reiterates the need for a more liberal Aviation Policy that will increase greater accessibility to and from India. And that States should be encouraged to receive international flights by being made party to bi-literals.

It strongly feels that the interests of Tourism should over-ride the compulsions of reciprocity.

IATO recommends the revival of the Visa on Arrival scheme for the 16 selected countries without any further delay.

IATO calls for renewed efforts for synergising areas of cooperation between the various segments of the goverment, the industry , particularly between rail and road transport ministers of Finance and External Affairs on matters like taxation and Facilitation.

It calls for greater cooperation between all segments of the Tourism Industry for a well-coordinated promotion of Tourism as a whole in the country.

IATO wants the upgradation of Bagdogra Airport to boost tourism in the North East.

It urges the rationalisation of taxation on Tourist Coaches by States.
